Singapore Set to Consolidate Position as Top MICE Destination

Singapore is set to retain its position as one of the world’s top Meeting, Incentives, Conference and Events (MICE) destinations, with the opening of its two new Integrated Resorts in early 2010, the Singapore Tourism Board announced today.

Even before the start of the New Year, Marina Bay SandsTM and Resorts World Sentosa’s convention facilities have attracted over 40 events between them for 2010, with over 200 prospective events penciled in over the next four years. These events include such ground breaking events as:


  • Inter-Pacific Bar Association 2010 – In May 2010, top lawyers will congregate at Marina Bay Sands for the annual IPBA 2010. With the theme of “Climate Change”, the conference counts former U.S. Vice President and environmental champion Al Gore as its keynote speaker.

  • LIVE! Singapore 2010 - a new international event for the performing arts industry incorporating both a ground-breaking conference and an international trade-fair to be held at Resorts World Sentosa from 8 to 11 June.

  • 77th UFI Congress - UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry will be hosting the 77th UFI Congressat the Marina Bay Sands from the 10 to 13 November. A number of additional UFI meetings are also being planned.

  • 11th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention – This prestigious convention, which is expected to attract 4,000 of the top business leaders from around the world, will be held at Resorts World Sentosa from 5 to 7 October 2011.
At the Marina Bay Sands, conference organizers can host a cocktail party on the Sands SkyPark® which offers a spectacular view of the Singapore skyline. Conference attendees and also dine at one of the six celebrity restaurants or indulge at the luxurious Marina Bay Shoppes®.

While at Resorts World Sentosa, event organizers have the option of incorporating South East Asia’s only Universal Studios Theme Park and a night out at the Hard Rock Hotel into the leisure activities for their participants.

“The high number of events already booked – some of which are firsts in Singapore – signify strong growth for Singapore’s MICE industry,” said Jason Ong, Area Director, Middle East & Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.

“We are confident that with the host of new events secured for 2010 and beyond, Singapore will continue to bolster its status as one of the world’s top business events destinations,” he concluded.

Resorts World Sentosa, with the capacity to host 35,000 MICE guests at any one time, has confirmed 30 event bookings for 2010.

Meanwhile, the Sands Expo and Convention Centre will welcome over 150,000 attendees in the coming year, who will take part in more than a dozen events covering security, law, lifestyle, IT, media communications, and luxury designer goods.
