Travel agents in a bind

Those hoping to cash in on CNY crowd have had to turn away potential customers

RESORTS World Sentosa's (RWS) casino licence has been issued, and the full line-up of games released.
But with interest in Singapore's first casino reaching a fever pitch among tourists and Singaporeans, one crucial bit of information - the opening date - is missing, and travel industry players are growing impatient about being kept in the dark.

Ten travel agents told The Straits Times they have been receiving booking inquiries from around the region, but have had to turn away potential customers because they do not know the opening date.
They say they have checked repeatedly with RWS, but have not received an answer.

Indeed, when The Straits Times asked RWS about its launch date yesterday, its spokesman Krist Boo would say only that 'Resorts World Sentosa is on track to open in the first quarter of 2010'.
A check with Singapore Tourism Board chief executive Aw Kah Peng also drew a blank.
