SHANGHAI DISNEY RESORT CREATES HAPPINESS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED

(Shanghai, June 1, 2013) – To celebrate International Children's Day, volunteers from Shanghai Disney Resort have created a unique Disney-inspired decorative environment for the newly-opened Hematology and Oncology Center of Shanghai Children's Medical Center. The Disney-themed areas of the new treatment center will help bring happiness and laughter to children and families during their visits to the hospital, and were hand-painted by Disney's employee volunteers as part of the global celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Disney "VoluntEARS" community volunteer program.

As part of Shanghai Disney Resort Community Beautification Program, over 100 Disney VoluntEARS from the Shanghai Disney Resort management and project development teams and their families participated in the decoration of the new Hematology and Oncology Center by painting and furnishing a colorful "Happy World" fun activity room. The theme was inspired by the world-renowned Disney theme "It's A Small World", and the activity room will help inspire and support children during their treatment at the center. To decorate the reception and hallways of the center, Shanghai Disney Resort also donated over 100 "It's A Small World" themed canvas paintings, each hand-painted by Shanghai Disney Resorts VoluntEARS. The paintings depict 30 different Small World dolls, each representing one of the 30 magical years of the Disney VoluntEARS program.

"We are excited to use our expertise in creativity and interior design to beautify the new building of the Shanghai Children's Medical Center and bring our Disney happiness and magic to support the treatment and recovery of children," said Mike Crawford, General Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. "Disney is committed to being a valuable community partner and a responsible corporate citizen here in China. Over the past three decades, Disney VoluntEARS have worked on meaningful projects across the world, and now we are bringing this legacy to our new resort destination in Shanghai. Events like this help not only to support children and their families in times of need, but also to educate, inspire and encourage our Cast to make meaningful contributions to society."

Since 1983, Disney VoluntEARS in 42 countries have given over 7.5 million hours of volunteer service, including comforting kids during their hospital stays, participating in beach clean-ups, and building community playgrounds.
