As construction of the Shanghai Disney Resort continues on its theme
park and associated facility development, the Shanghai Disney Resort
Management Company today released a new image of the overall resort
concept. Innovative new design and technology practices are being used
in guiding the development work of the resort, including resort modeling
and Building Information Modeling (BIM), in order to maximize
efficiencies in the design and construction phase, and ensure
development of Shanghai Disney Resort remains on target to open at the
end of 2015.
"Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has been helping families create shared
memories for nearly 60 years", said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney
Parks & Resorts. "Shanghai Disney Resort will bring a classic Disney
Parks experience to mainland China and will immerse Chinese guests in a
whole new world of creativity, imagination and adventure that only
Disney can deliver."
"The Shanghai Disney project will be the perfect combination of Disney
global standards with local best practices, and will truly be
'authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese'. We are excited to see the
Disney Imagineering team bring new design and construction techniques
to China, working collaboratively with local design institutes, thereby
supporting localization efforts for the Shanghai Disney project while
also creating longer term benefits for the Chinese construction
industry", said Fan Xiping, Chairman of Disney's Chinese joint venture
partner in Shanghai Disney Resort, Shanghai Shendi Group.
"We are excited to see the resort development move into an intensive
phase of construction, and look forward to providing more updates in the
future, as we reach key milestones", said Mike Crawford, General
Manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. "Each phase of the resort development
is an important mix of creativity and technology, all of which is aimed
at ensuring the guest will experience a safe, unique and exciting
immersive experience, creating special memories with family and friends
which are hallmarks of the Disney resort experience."
The image illustrates a portion of the model (1:100 scale) Shanghai
Disneyland, and provides a first-look at a beautiful, 11 acre green
space at the center of the park, and a closer look at the unique design
and scale of Enchanted Storybook Castle, the iconic central attraction
of the theme park. On opening day the resort will include Shanghai
Disneyland, two themed hotels, a 46,000 square meter retail, dining and
entertainment venue, recreational facilities, a lake and associated
parking and transportation hubs.
