Marina Bay Sands Construction Video

Sands SkyPark to Redefine Singapore Skyline

Marina Bay Sands creates tourism history with Asia’s largest SkyPark at 200m

Singapore (25 September 2009) – Marina Bay Sands® will soon redefine Singapore’s skyline by lifting the first piece of the 7,000-tonne steel superstructure of the Sands SkyPark® that will be at the top of the Marina Bay Sands hotel towers. With the Sands SkyPark, Singapore will take centre stage and rank among the world’s greatest skylines and tourism destinations.

Lifting this superstructure presents one of the most interesting and complex phases of construction. The groundbreaking architectural design puts the Sands SkyPark 200 meters in the air linking the three separate hotel towers. When it’s completed, the Sands SkyPark will be longer than the Eiffel Tower is tall and big enough to park four-and-a-half A380 jumbo jets.

Marina Bay Sands will use a unique combination of bridge and building technology to build the Sands SkyPark in 14 heavy lifts over the next three months. Each piece takes up to 24 hours to lift to the topmand slide into place. The SkyPark will offer a public observation deck, landscaped gardens, sprawling outdoor pools, signature restaurants, and one of Singapore’s hottest nightspots.

Marina Bay Sands’ President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Thomas Arasi said, “The Marina Bay Sands SkyPark will offer visitors a once-in-a-lifetime experience and unrivaled views of Singapore. It will serve as a great symbol of recognition for one of the world’s great cities.”

The Sands SkyPark will crown an extraordinary integrated resort with something for everyone. Marina Bay Sands Shoppes® will offer an impressive line-up of 300 stores comprising international luxury brands and cutting-edge and emerging labels new to Singapore. Brands that have committed to open stores in the new retail Shoppes include Bally, Blancpain, Bottega Veneta, Breguet, Bulgari, Burberry, CHANEL, Ferragamo, Gucci, Guess, Hublot, La Senza, Miu Miu, Omega, Patek Philippe, Prada, Raoul, Tiffany & Co. and Yves Saint Laurent.

In addition to the rooftop Sands SkyPark, Marina Bay Sands will feature large and flexible exhibition and convention facilities, a luxury hotel, a museum, Las Vegas-style gaming, the Paiza Club for premium players, world-class theatres, an outdoor event plaza, and restaurants that allow visitors to eat around the world under one roof.

“The scale and architecture of Marina Bay Sands will mean that just walking around the integrated resort in the heart of Singapore will be one of the most exciting attractions on its own,” Mr. Arasi said.

Singapore's Changi Airport lands 5 awards for Best Airport

CHANGI Airport has clinched five awards from major international travel publications and websites this month, including four 'Best Airport' titles.

Readers of the United Kingdom edition of the renowned Business Traveller magazine have voted Singapore's airport as the best in the world for the 22nd year running.

The Asia-Pacific edition of the same magazine, which prints 10 issues a year, has given Changi Airport the same accolade - for the 18th consecutive year.

Other awards this month ranked Changi Airport as the best in terms of duty-free shopping and eating.

Changi's reputation took a hit several months ago when a global survey of 190 airports pegged it as only the third best, behind Seoul and Hong Kong.

There were also concerns among industry observers that the recent corporatisation of airport operations here, which led to the creation of the Changi Airport Group, might lead to an emphasis on the bottom line at the expense of customer service.

The group's chief executive, Mr Lee Seow Hiang, said: 'Despite the increasingly competitive operating landscape, we are heartened that Changi Airport continues to win such airport awards every year. We appreciate the very strong support that travellers worldwide continue to give us.'

This month's five awards bring Changi Airport's list of accolades this year to 17.

Since its opening in 1981, Changi has won more than 300 airport awards.

DreamWorks Animation attractions at Universal Studios Singapore:

  1. Madagascar: A Crate Adventure: The hit DreamWorks Animation films are brought to life with state-of-the-art animated figures, digital projection, evocative sound, and moving show-action effects that create a one-of-a-kind, immersive ride experience. Cast adrift while being transferred from the New York Zoo, our four heroes - Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria - arrive at the shores of Madagascar. Here, they meet the impulsive leader of the local lemurs, King Julien, who, between bustin' moves on the jungle floor, asks the New Yorkers to help defeat his nemesis - the dreaded Foosa. Aided by the technically-savvy but psychotic penguins, our heroes defeat the Foosa at the rim of a bubbling volcanic cauldron.
  2. Shrek 4-D: Join Princess Fiona, Shrek and Donkey on a honeymoon adventure that picks up where the Oscar-winning movie "Shrek" left off, through an original 3-D film, complete with jumps, bumps, bounces, air blasts and water spray that bring the action to life for each guest - with an extra dimension of special effects through the miracle of Ogre Vision.
  3. Donkey Live: Shrek's fairy tale sidekick Donkey will bring the crowd to its feet in this all-new, one-of-a-kind, interactive live show experience, where guests sing along and even talk with Donkey in an intimate theatre setting. Situated along Far Far Away's glamorous Romeo Drive, Hook's Knight Club is the hottest nightspot in town.
  4. King Julien's Beach Party-Go-Round: King Julien, the self-appointed king of the lemurs, knows how to move it, move it, and now he spins guests round and round to the beat of high-energy dance music in this crazy carousel, sure to be a family favorite. At this festive beach scene, King Julien and the Lemurs are throwing a party for their favorite freaks from New York: Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe.
  5. Enchanted Airways: Guests of all ages climb aboard Donkey's beloved Dragon for a flight over Far Far Away and beyond. At Enchanted Airways, a merry cast of fairy tale creatures - from the Three Pigs to the Big Bad Wolf, from Gingerbread Man to Pinocchio - forms part of a magical airline in the form of a junior coaster that serves destinations throughout the World of Shrek!
  6. Magic Potion Spin: As guests make their way past the bubbling vats of Fairy Godmother's Potion Shop, they'll encounter the fantastical heart of the factory, the Magic Potion Spin. This miniature Ferris wheel drives a clinking, clanking potion assembly line that circles the room, bottling magical elixirs from a giant wooden vat.

Singapore resort uses VingCard wireless online locking system

Singapore’s largest integrated resort and family destination, the $6.59 billion Resorts World Sentosa, has installed a wireless RF-online locking system, VISIONLINE from VingCard, a hospitality security provider and part of the ASSA ABLOY Group.

The product will be installed in all six hotels at the family destination, which will also feature a casino, Southeast Asia’s first Universal Studios theme park, an oceanarium and a water park.

Introduced in 2006, VISIONLINE is currently operating in more than 20,000 guestrooms worldwide. The product offers a solution for properties like Resorts World Sentosa, to facilitate two-way wireless online communication from stand-alone electronic door locks to their host security and PMS systems.

Unlike traditional off-line stand-alone locks, VISIONLINE uses RF-online communication capabilities that eliminate the need to travel to each guestroom to perform tasks such as reprogramming individual locks or identifying and changing low batteries, as well the need for a guest to return to the front desk to change a room or extend his or her stay. VISIONLINE components also can communicate with multiple rooms at once, reducing the number of network elements required for installation when compared to other online technologies.
